Alpha Phi Omega

Delta Sigma Chapter · University of Connecticut

A gender-inclusive national service fraternity built on Leadership, Friendship, and Service.

Who we are

Leaders, friends, and volunteers since 1925

Alpha Phi Omega is a gender-inclusive national service fraternity, founded by Frank Reed Horton at Lafayette College on December 16, 1925, on principles drawn from the Scout Oath and Law. Brothers give their time to the fraternity, the campus, the community, and the nation, and build leadership skills and lifelong friendships along the way.

Our Delta Sigma chapter was chartered at UConn on January 12, 1947. Since 1970, we’ve also cared for UConn’s live mascot, Jonathan the Husky.

A note from our president

When I joined Alpha Phi Omega as a freshman, I had no idea it would become the center of my time at UConn, but the more I got involved, the more I found my people here. What I love most about APO is the variety of our service. In a single weekend, members might volunteer with several completely different organizations, and there is truly something for everyone. I gravitate toward outdoor projects, while others enjoy working with animals, supporting children’s programs, or volunteering with health-focused organizations. That range is what makes our chapter special: it brings together people who genuinely want to serve and gives them the opportunity to build lasting friendships while doing it. APO also gave me the confidence to step into leadership before I thought of myself as a leader, and I have watched it do the same for many others. I am proud to represent a chapter that has lived out Leadership, Friendship, and Service at UConn since 1947.

If you are looking for a welcoming community and a meaningful way to make a difference, I hope you will get to know Delta Sigma.
